On Friday, July,18, 2014, Pelita Indonesia visited coastal regions of Ujung Genteng, Sukabumi. Together with the Village Pangumbahan Officer, District Ciracap, Sukabumi, Pelita distributed 52 ceramic water filters and provided health counseling for underprivileged families.
This event took place at a local Guesthouse, where everyone was welcomed by a speech given by Mr. Yudi, Head of Village Pangumbahan. The community received an explanation about STBM (Total Community Based Sanitation), ceramic water filters, the effects of smoking, and an explanation about TB. The owner of Feby Guesthouse also give his testimony after using the ceramic filter in the last 2 month. He said, “after using the ceramic filter, I have not had to buy bottled water or boiled water for our daily needs. Now, I can get it drinking water more easily and cheap”.After the water filters were distributed, everyone had the opportunity to obtain a free health checkup and free vitamins from our health team.
Our sponsors for this event were from America. They sent a small team to assist in the distribution and to allow them to learn more about Indonesian culture and the needs that are faced here.
The next day, our team visited each family that received a ceramic water filter to ensure they understood how to correctly use the device.
We would like to say thank you to our sponsor! We hope that many more activities will be held in this area to assist the public in receiving safe drinking water and vital health care. Pelita Indonesia invites anyone that would like to donate and support our program “1 Filter for 1 Family” to contact us.
